WHIPIC Foundation Ceremony and the return of World Heritage Committee
In celebration of the foundation of WHIPIC, the Strategy Planning Office will host its Foundation Ceremony event at the end of May. During the event, the inaugural meeting of the governing board and the 8th Annual Coordination Meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage-Related Category 2 Centres will be taken place.
Moreover, the office plans to attend the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee to analyse the committee’s agendas and to share the recent issues and subjects mentioned by the committee with the public.
Lastly, the office will commence its first international exchange programme this year. After receiving many inquiries and interests from all parts of the world, practitioners and future experts, WHIPIC will invite interns and fellows to reach the centre’s role and vision further.
Four different areas of the Research that will strengthen Heritage Interpretation and Presentation Discourses
Following the first year’s outcomes of the Research and Development Office, we plan to convey four different research projects in 2023 as we did last year: theoretical, policy, thematic, and regional research.
There are different issues, such as theoretical discussion about ‘heritage presentation’ and comprehensive analysis of ‘policy documents’ of UNESCO. Also, we plan to conduct a study to establish the ’Interpretation Strategy’ for the UNESCO World Heritage nomination of Sites of Memory associated with recent conflicts. At last, a follow-up study to deepen the outcome of the 2022 thematic research about Sites of Memory associated with recent conflicts will be carried out. Last but not least, the ‘World Heritage Interpretation Presentation Forum’, which received enthusiastic responses previous year, will be held with global heritage experts and professionals in November.
Please look forward to this year’s research plan which will go one step further than last year’s and strengthen then heritage interpretation and presentation discourse.
Capacity Building of World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation for Everyone and Raising Public Awareness
Education and Networking Office plans to work on four areas this year:
Our office will operate an international and national WHIPIC capacity building program for World Heritage interpretation and presentation. An international seminar for establishing actual interpretation strategies as the 45th World Heritage Committee side event will be held too. Developing secondary education programs with the Sejong City office of Education and Producing and educational video will contribute to promoting awareness and drawing interest in world heritage interpretation and presentation.
Let me introduce this year's project plan of Education and Networking Office, which is still striving to improve capacity building and raise public awareness for everyone in heritage interpretation and presentation.
The Journey to develop a Communication Platform for World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation
In 2023, Information Management Office will be working on ‘Informatisation’, ‘World Heritage Presentation’ and ‘Communication.
First, the office will define, identify, categorise and standardise data relating to world heritage interpretation and presentation for implementing the Information Strategy Plan of WHIPIC. Second, 'Study on World Heritage Presentation Methodology’ will be conducted to understand the current practice and create an inclusive model for world heritage presentation. Third, our annual international magazine ‘Interpreting World Heritage’(will be distributed at the 45th World Heritage Convention) and monthly E-Newsletter will be published.
Please stay tuned with us.
