UNESCO WHIPIC to Host 2022 World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation Forum in Success
The UNESCO WHIPIC (The International Centre for the Interpretation and Presentation of World Heritage Sites under the auspices of UNESCO) held 2022 World Heritage Interpretation Presentation Forum in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. This event was held for two days (November 15 and 16) with two themes: Heritage Interpretation for the Sustainable Development, and Theoretical Research on Heritage Interpretation and Presentation:Concepts and Challenges. It was also broadcast live on the WHIPIC’s YouTube Channel. At The forum was successful that it welcomed more than 200 audiences and hit more than 5,000 views. It was a wonderful opportunity for World Heritage experts and international communities to communicate and share their ideas on the heritage interpretation and presentation policies. The UNESCO WHIPIC will continue to put forth efforts into policy issues regarding various needs of heritage interpretation and presentation in the global society through annual academic forums. Basic Research on World Heritage Presentation Methodologies
Information Management Office and Hanyang University (ERICA) have carried out Basic Research on World Heritage Presentation Methodologies, from August 1 to November 28. The purpose of this research project is to make up for the lack of research on ‘Presentation’ and the imbalance between centre’s activities in relation to World Heritage ‘Interpretation’ and ‘Presentation’, and by doing so, to emphasise the roles and importance of ‘presentation’ based on good cases of various presentation methods of world heritage sites. Furthermore, the research comes up with relevant mid-long term projects ideas in connection with the center’s ‘research,’ ‘capability building,’ and ‘informatization’. The outcome of the ‘basic research for world heritage presentation methodologies’ will serve as a primary reference for WHIPIC’s various future projects and activities related to ‘presentation’.
Roundtable Dialogue on bridging the gap between conservation and development through Heritage Interpretation
On October 20, WHIPIC organized the Roundtable on bridging the gap between environment, conservation and development through Heritage Interpretation. There have been ongoing discussions about finding the balance between conservation and development through sustainable development, community participation, and various forms of partnerships and multi-national collaboration. It is a challenging, however, meaningful journey to embrace all stakeholders and to contribute to the harmonious value of World Heritage sites. On such grounds, WHIPIC invited experts in the fields of environment, conservation and development to hear about the role of heritage in each area and how we can achieve mutual cooperation through inclusive heritage interpretation and presentation.

Virunga National Park (Part II): Mountain Gorillas
Enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979, ‘Virunga National Park’ in Congo is a precious habitat for one-third of mountain gorillas. Mountain gorillas are endangered species. There are only about 1,000 of them alive in the world. Let us take a look at various facts about mountain gorillas in the YouTube shorts presented by WHIPIC and HelloEARTH, Virunga National Park (Part II): Mountain Gorillas.
