Day 1 Group Activities
The 2nd Capacity Building Workshop on World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation of 2023 was held at The K Hotel in Seoul and Namhansanseong from July 6th to 7th. This training is one of the capacity-building programs targeting domestic World Heritage site managers in South Korea and was conducted with the theme 'Attribute-Centered World Heritage List Analysis', further deepening last year's pilot project. The training was attended by 49 representatives from 26 organizations, including workers from cities in 11 World Heritage sites (7 listed, 4 tentative).
In this training, participants learned about the attributes of World Heritage through theoretical lectures such as an overview of the World Heritage Convention, Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) and attribute extraction, and case presentations, as well as group activities and site visiting. Based on this, participants acquired the methodology for interpreting Statement of OUV. In particular, the World Heritage value and other values were discussed together using the case of Namhansanseong, and the participants interpreted the statement to explain the Namhansanseong utilization program.
Day 1 Lecture
According to the training participation survey, the participants were very satisfied with the course(4.7 out of 5 points), and they expressed that their understanding of future challenges in managing World Heritage has improved through specific cases regarding attributes. Based on the survey, WHIPIC plans to improve the training and operate an annual capacity-building program for World Heritage site managers.
