    Workshop on World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation in Africa

    In the midst of an online workshop


    The “Online Workshop on World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation in Africa” was jointly organised by WHIPIC, AWHF(African World Heritage Fund), and the Namibian National Heritage Council from October 19th to October 23rd.

    WHIPIC's Theoretical Lecture


    This workshop marked the first international capacity-building program on World Heritage interpretation hosted by WHIPIC since its official establishment. It was conducted based on the memorandum of understanding signed between WHIPIC and AWHF in June. The 2023 World Heritage Interpretation International Capacity Building ProgramWorkshop on World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation in Africa consists of two stages, including online and on-site workshops. The online phase preceded the on-site workshop in Twyfelfontein, Namibia, and included theoretical lectures and participant case studies.

    AWHF's Theoretical Lecture


    This online workshop saw the participation of 30 heritage managers from 15 countries, including Egypt, Zimbabwe, Sudan, and Malawi. Thirty heritage heritage managers from 15 countries, including Egypt, Zimbabwe, Sudan, and Malawi, took part in this online workshop. Commencing with an opening address by Director-General Changnam Hong, theoretical lectures on various topics related to World Heritage interpretation and presentation were delivered. All online participants had the opportunity to present their own heritage as case studies and share outstanding examples of interpretation.

    Participant Case Studies


    Furthermore, participants could engage with heritage experts from Asia and Africa without time and space constraints, creating a valuable opportunity to discuss tools and strategies for interpretation and presentation for preserving and promoting their heritage.
