Thanks to your fantastic support last year, we rebranded the content series as 'WHIPIC-We-Pick! From now on, we'll pick a theme each year and we intend to present them in narrative style, drawing from the OUV of World Heritage.
This year, under the theme "Finding our Her-itage," we're exploring the significance of women across World Heritage sites that often go unnoticed.
The debut episode of "Finding our Her-itage," titled "Women of Tranquility," is now available! It's the first instalment of a three-part multimedia series.
Listed as a World Heritage Site in Belgium in 1998, the Flemish Béguinages in the Flanders Region of Belgium was a space for a local community of women, both religious and secular. Being a place exclusive for women it was acknowledged for being a gathering place for strong, independent women who wanted to create a new home. The Beguinages, a longtime home for women from the 13th to the 20th century, still stands in tranquility today.
