2024 WHIPIC International Exchange Programme: A Platform for Global Cooperation in Heritage Protection

    27 Sep 2024

Through its international exchange programmes, WHIPIC brings together talent from diverse cultural backgrounds to collaborate on worldwide research and heritage conservation. Recently, Dr. Pascall Taruvinga, a fellow who has made significant contributions to our Africa-related projects, visited some of Korea's World Heritage Sites. From September 10th to 11th, he toured the Gyeongju Historic Areas, including Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple, and attended the Heritage Korea 2024, gaining firsthand insight into Korea's heritage management and industry. These activities have helped to strengthen cultural exchanges and collaboration between Korea and Africa.

Additionally, two new international interns joined WHIPIC in August, actively contributing to their respective fields. Ms. Lhakpa Dolma Lama from Nepal is working in the Information Management Office, where she is conducting research for multimedia production related to the Lumbini heritage in Nepal. This project will play a key role in effectively promoting Lumbini heritage. Ms. Sarah Benazizi from Italy is in the Strategic Planning Office, researching materials for the UNESCO World Heritage Category 2 Centre project and assisting in the creation of a living guidebook for international residents in Sejong. Their global perspectives are invaluable to WHIPIC's strategic development.

WHIPIC's fellowship and internship programmes provide a vital platform for individuals from various cultures and experiences to share knowledge and ideas. After the programme concludes, we will provide updates through participant interviews. We look forward to your continued support and interest in WHIPIC's international exchange initiatives!
