    Capacity-Building Seminar on Periodic Reporting Concludes Successfully - Strengthening Strategies for Systematic World Heritage Management

    The UNESCO International Centre for the Interpretation and Presentation of World Heritage (WHIPIC) successfully held its ‘Capacity-Building Seminar on Periodic Reporting’ on December 9. The event brought together 58 experts from 34 organisations involved in managing and safeguarding World Heritage sites across Korea.

     

    Designed to prepare Korean professionals for the upcoming periodic reporting process in the Asia-Pacific region, the seminar featured a comprehensive program aimed at enhancing their expertise and understanding.

     

    Highlights included a keynote presentation from the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, which outlined the implementation plan for the Asia-Pacific region. Haeree Shim, Head of Education and Networking Office at WHIPIC, followed with a detailed overview of the outcomes from the Asia-Pacific Periodic Reporting Advisory Meeting. Representatives from the African World Heritage Fund(AWHF) and the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH) also shared insights on implementation plans and case studies from Africa and the Arab region. The afternoon sessions focused on practical examples of periodic reporting from Korea, providing participants with actionable insights. The seminar concluded with an engaging discussion and Q&A session, fostering the exchange of experiences and expertise among attendees.

    This seminar not only bolstered the capabilities of Korean World Heritage experts but also reinforced WHIPIC’s role as a key institution for capacity-building in periodic reporting. Moving forward, WHIPIC plans to continue driving initiatives that support the effective management and preservation of World Heritage sites globally.
