Guidance on Identifying Values and Attributes for Heritage Interpretation
This year, WHIPIC’s Research Office introduces two new publications: Guidance on Identifying Values and Attributes for Heritage Interpretation and The Handbook for interpreting and nominating Sites of Memory.
The Guidance on Identifying Values and Attributes for Heritage Interpretation is the result of in-depth research into methodologies for attribute extraction. It offers a step-by-step guide to developing diverse interpretive themes and narratives by identifying and exploring a wide range of values and attributes through a participatory approach.
Building on WHIPIC’s research from 2022 and 2023, The Handbook for interpreting and nominating Sites of Memory has been developed. This handbook examines various types of sites of memory and provides guidance on key considerations for nominating such heritage for UNESCO World Heritage. It is designed to serve as a valuable resource for State Parties and heritage sites preparing nominations, while also fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the value of sites of memory among the general public.
These publications will soon be available on the WHIPIC website. We encourage all heritage communities to explore these resources and collaborate with us to creating multi-layered narratives for heritage interpretation.
