    Workshop on Interpretation and Presentation in Rwanda

    WHIPIC, the African World Heritage Fund(AWHF) and the Government of Rwanda are collaborating to host a workshop on interpretation and presentation of World Heritage Sites associated with Memory of Recent Conflicts in Africa. This workshop will explore methods to communicate and preserve the value of heritage through interpretation and presentation. Besides, this would incorporate Africa’s diverse narratives into sustainable heritage management strategies. The workshop will provide a valuable learning opportunity for participants.

     

    The call for application has gone out at AWHF and WHIPIC’s website and will be opened until 8th October 2024. Participants will take part in both online and in-person workshops. The online workshop will take place from 28th-31st October 2024, via Zoom, while the in-person workshop will be held from 11th-15th November 2024, in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

    Key Workshop Details


    1. Objective

    The 2024 workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of experts in interpretating and presenting sites associated with memory of recent conflicts in Africa. It will focus on enhancing the ability of heritage practitioners to convey the values and attributes of such sites with professionalism, integrating diverse perspectives into their narratives.


    2. Program Details

    Online Sessions: The online workshop will cover theoretical approaches to heritage interpretation and presentation, featuring case studies from various countries.

    In-Person Sessions: The in-person workshop will include visits to the recently inscribed World Heritage Sites of the Murambi, Kigali, and Nyamata Genocide Memorials. This will involve field studies, practical exercises, and discussions to foster a deeper understanding of heritage interpretation and management.

     

    This workshop is expected to provide an excellent opportunity work together with the African World Heritage Fund(AWHF) and the Government of Rwanda, and to strengthen partnerships through continuous collaboration.
