    2026 WHIPIC Fellowship Programme

     

    International Centre for the Interpretation and Presentation of World Heritage Sites under the auspices of UNESCO(WHIPIC) is a Category 2 Centre dedicated to fostering the interpretation and presentation of World Heritage sites, through participatory and ethical approaches. WHIPIC invites heritage professionals to apply for the WHIPIC Fellowship programme for 2026.

     

    About the Programme

    Aimed at expanding the spectrum of the Centre’s projects and global network, WHIPIC is looking for a heritage professional for the WHIPIC Fellowship programme. Selected fellow will share various knowledge and perspectives on the interpretation and presentation in World Heritage and contribute to developing and enhancing diverse WHIPIC projects.

    Eligibility

    Applicants must demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in English and meet at least one of the following criteria:

    • Have a minimum of five years of professional academic experience with practical knowledge and skills in areas such as heritage management, conservation, interpretation, presentation, digitalization, or related fields
    • Have a field experience, preferably in a managerial or coordinating role, in World Heritage–related projects at international organizations, including UNESCO

    * Relevant field of study and work experiences may include but not limited to:

    World Heritage system, heritage management, conservation, architecture, archaeology, geography, information management, heritage digitalization, history, anthropology, sociology, heritage law and policy, community engagement, international relations for heritage etc.

     

    Responsibility

    The selected fellow is expected to carry out the following activities during the fellowship period:

    • Conduct individual research related to the World Heritage Convention and its framework, the interpretation and presentation of World Heritage and submit a report on the research outcomes
    • Collaborate and consult with WHIPIC staff in the development and implementation of WHIPIC projects
    • Engage in activities that are considered mutually beneficial to both WHIPIC and the Fellow

    • Roundtrip airfare
    • Housing for the duration of the fellowship
    • Insurance up to $150(USD) for the duration of the fellowship
    • Financial aid for living up to 2,000,000KRW per month
    • Opportunities to visit heritage sites and build professional networks with heritage experts through various occasions in Korea

    • educational background
    • relevant work experiences, activities and publications

    For educational background, applicants must clearly indicate whether the degree was awarded and provide the exact date of degree conferral (year and month).


    All professional experiences—including workshops attended, fellowship activities, internships, and other relevant engagements—must be clearly specified with exact start and end dates (year, month, and day).

    Proposal

    Your proposal should include:

    • purpose and objectives of applying for the fellowship (300 words)
    • research and activity plans during the fellowship (400 words)

    Supporting  documents

    Please note that any false or misleading information provided in the application, particularly regarding professional experience and achievements, may result in disqualification. So, please make sure all of your information in your CV is true and verifiable through your supporting documents

    For experiences such as participation in published research, workshops, training programmes, conferences, or presentations, applicants are required to submit appropriate supporting documents. Acceptable evidence includes actual publications, presentation materials, certificates of participation or other official documents that verifies your activities with clear indication of your name and period of your participation. These supporting documents should all clearly indicate the applicant’s name.

    Any experience or achievement that is not supported by valid documentation will not be considered during the evaluation process. Letters of recommendation or reference letters that do not demonstrate the outcomes or verifiable details of your previous activities will not be accepted as supporting documents.

    Paper evaluation result announcement

    • Candidates qualified for interview will be selected based on the submitted application form and documents.
    • The result and interview date will be informed via email indicated in the application form.

    24 March

    Online interview

    • A link for online interview will be sent.

    31 March

    Final result announcement

    • Final WHIPIC fellows will be informed via email.
    • Invitation letters and further information will be sent afterward.


    Notice

    • All application forms and required documents must be submitted in English.

    • Please note that the application and evaluation schedule may be adjusted depending on the Centre’s circumstances. Any changes will be announced on the WHIPIC website, and applicants will be informed individually by email.

    • Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their contact details remain valid throughout the application and evaluation process.

    • Fellows will be assigned to one of the WHIPIC offices based on the applicants’ stated interests, the relevance of their background and expertise to the Centre’s programmes, and the operational needs of each office.

    • Due to the high volume of applications, WHIPIC may not be able to provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.

    • Please kindly note that applicants who are not contacted by WHIPIC within three weeks after the application deadline should consider their application unsuccessful.

    • Please note that if a selected candidate withdraws their intention to participate in the fellowship, the opportunity will be offered to the next-ranked candidate.
