Hosting the Side Event for the extended 45th World Heritage Committee

WHIPIC has hosted the side event on September 16, 2023, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, “Pathway to Advancing Heritage Interpretation and Presentation within the World Heritage System”Targeting officials from the World Heritage Committee member countries, the event drew experts from 29 nations, including Spain, Zimbabwe, and Australia, totaling 100 specialists during the Extended 45th Session of the World Heritage Committee.

The opening remarks, offering insights into the future of heritage interpretation, were presented by notable figures such as Lazare Eloundou Assomo, the Director of the World Heritage Centre; the Administrator of tthe Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea; and Director General of the Interpretation Centre. Additionally, distinguished representatives from the advisory bodies of the World Heritage Centre, including Joseph King, Senior Director of ICCROM; Tim Badman, Head of Culture and Heritage at IUCN; and Marie-Laure Lavenir, Secretary-General of ICOMOS, delved deep into discussions about the integration of inclusive heritage interpretation within the World Heritage System. Illustrating the journey towards this vision, the accomplishments of the Interpretation Centre, spanning research, capacity-building, and informatisation projects, were showcased by Haeree Shim, the Head of the Centre's Education and Networking Office. During the discussion, cultural heritage professionals and experts from diverse nations exchanged notable practices, faced challenges, and brainstormed potential solutions related to heritage interpretation.
