Q. Please introduce yourself!

Innocent Munyaradzi Mashamaire is my name, I am from Zimbabwe. I currently work as an Exhibitions Designer at Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site for National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe. I am also a recipient of WHIPIC fellowship.

Q. Could you tell us about what is your role at the GZWHS?

My responsibilities as an exhibition designer at the Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site include display conceptualization, design, and execution. Some of my main responsibilities include performing in-depth research on exhibitions as well as generating unique concepts and layouts to provide visitors with an interesting and educational experience. It is also my role to curate artifacts, create interactive exhibits, and ensure that all exhibition aspects are consistent with their overall vision.

Q. What was your first reaction when you heard about the fellowship in Korea?

My first reaction when I received the fellowship was disbelief, followed by excitement, gratitude, and relief. I couldn't believe that I had been chosen out of all the other applicants. I was so grateful for the opportunity to pursue my research interests with the support of WHIPIC. In other words, I was overwhelmed with positive emotions, it is a life-changing experience that I will never forget. I am so grateful for this opportunity and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Q. What are your first impressions of Korea during the last 3 weeks?

My first impressions of Korea are very positive. I have found the people to be friendly and helpful, the food to be delicious, and the culture to be rich and fascinating as well as its technological prowess. I have also been impressed by the cleanliness of the country and the beauty of the scenery. I am really enjoying my time in (Sejong) South Korea so far, and I can't wait to see what the rest of my trip has in store.

Q. Please tell us about what you like to achieve during your fellowship.

As a fellow with WHIPIC, I hope to develop a deep understanding of the key concepts, theories, and methodologies in the field of presentation and interpretation of cultural material through site visits. I also wish to conduct a comparative study of the skills and methods used to present and interpret Baekje Historic Areas in South Korea with those of Great Zimbabwe World Heritage. This I believe, will help me to make a significant contribution to the field of presentation and interpretation of cultural material in Zimbabwe, and to the development of a new visitor center to be established at Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site.
