- [Informatisation] Data Study on World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation

- [World Heritage Presentation] Study for Inclusive World Heritage Presentation Model Development

- [Communication] WHIPIC Magazine and E-Newsletter

In 2023, Information Management Office plans to work on ‘Informatisation’, ‘World Heritage Presentation’ and 'Communication.’

1[Informatisation] Data Study on World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation

Over the past 50 years of the World Heritage Convention(1972), 1,057 cultural and natural heritage sites have been inscribed on the World Heritage List. Interpretation and presentation have always been together with the development of the world heritage system. Information of Interpretation and Presentation created in the process of understanding and communication of world heritage is instrumental in its conservation and transmission. In order to implement the roadmap of the WHIPIC Information Platform, this study aims to define, identify, categorise and standardise data relating to world heritage interpretation and presentation.

2[World Heritage Presentation] Study for World Heritage Presentation Model Development

Information Management Office conducted ‘Study on World Heritage Presentation Methodology’ which discovers categories of major stakeholders and different needs in its practice. Based on the research outcome in 2022, this year’s study will be conducted to understand the current practice and develop an inclusive model for world heritage presentation. The study selects one of the world heritage sites in Korea as a case to look into and improve three main elements: ① complete and accurate OUV delivery ② visitor experience and accessibility ③ engagement of stakeholders. To ensure the effectiveness and practicality of the outcome, WHIPIC will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders concerned with world heritage sites throughout the research.

3[Communication] Interpreting World Heritage and E-Newsletter Publication

Since 2022, WHIPIC has been publishing its annual international magazine(‘Interpreting World Heritage’) and E-Newsletter(monthly; Sep-Dec). Under the theme of the road to inclusive world heritage interpretation and presentation conveyed, the magazine’s inaugural issue shares global issues and news of (world) heritage interpretation and presentation through ideas and voices of diverse stakeholders. This year, the magazine will be published and distributed at the 45th World Heritage Convention, covering the theme, ‘The Next 50 years of the World Heritage Convention with Interpretation and Presentation’.

Also, WHIPIC created communication about world heritage in danger with a number of young people via multimedia which was produced in collaboration between Information Management Office and Youtuber specialising in biological diversity. In 2023, from March to December, the E-Newsletter will be monthly uploaded on the centre’s website. Furthermore, WHIPIC will endeavour to raise public awareness and continue our collaboration with  world heritage sites and content creators for effective world heritage presentation.
