What principles should guide our interpretation and presentation of heritage? And how can we identify and reflect the diverse values that heritage holds?
WHIPIC is hosting the 2024 World Heritage Interpretation and Presentation International Forum under the theme “Heritage Interpretation Principles and Attribute Mapping for a New Way Forward” from October 10 to 11 at the Convention Hall of Korea Federation of Banks in Seoul.
On the first day, ten speakers will join the presentation and discussion sessions on "The need for principles that reflect the new concept and paradigm for heritage interpretation and presentation to respond to contemporary issues." We will comprehensively discuss how heritage interpretation, understood as a meaning-making process through communication, participation and experience, connects with today's concerns, such as climate change, gender equality, and public engagement.
On the second day, the forum will feature eight presentations on "Identifying attributes for heritage interpretation." This session will explore the necessity of identifying attributes that can be applied to all heritage sites, including World Heritage sites. Through various case studies, we will examine how attribute idenficiation methodology can contribute to heritage interpretation to encourage community participation and integrate tangible and intangible values.
