NewsWHIPIC Roundtable 2022: Solidarity in Heritage Interpretation and Presentation: sharing experience, spreading lessons

International Centre for the Interpretation and Presentation of World Heritage Sites (WHIPIC) will host ‘WHIPIC Roundtable 2022: Solidarity in Heritage Interpretation and Presentation: sharing experience, spreading lessons’ on 31 August 2022. This roundtable will offer a precious opportunity to share experiences and spread lessons in heritage interpretation and presentation. By focusing on the cases of the sites and museums associated with different voices and narratives, WHIPIC aims to emphasise the importance of solidarity of concerned stakeholders in heritage interpretation and presentation.

WHIPIC Roundtable 2022 consists of four sessions, including three presentations and an open discussion session. Each presentation session will cover three different case studies with distinguished presenters. The first presentation is the case of Stecci Medieval Tombstone Graveyards, a World Heritage site, by Dr Višnja Kisić (EDUCONS University Novi Sad). Mrs Gegê Lemo Joseph (International Coalition of Sites of Conscience) will share the case of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, and Dr Ali Moussa Iye (Think Tank AFROSPECTIVES, a Global Africa Initiative) will present the case under the title of ‘Memory of Slavery: Challenges to Build Solidarity and Reconciliation.’ The last session will be a discussion session with the presenters and discussants, who have rich and practical experiences in heritage fields. Mr Jakub Nowakowski (Galicia Jewish Museum), Dr Shu-mei Huang (National Taiwan University) and Dr Stefanie Lotter (SOAS University of London) will contribute to the roundtable as discussants. Dr Hyunkyung Lee from Sogang University will moderate the roundtable sessions.

WHIPIC Roundtable 2022 will be held online on 31 August 2022, from 20:00-21:30 (KST) and will be open to all interested in heritage interpretation and presentation. The Zoom link for online access can be found on WHIPIC’s social media channels and below. The entire sessions will be conducted in English, and the recording of the roundtable will be uploaded to the YouTube channel of WHIPIC with English/Korean subtitles later.
