The Assistant Director-General for Culture, Mr Ernesto Ottone R., signed the final Agreement for this UNESCO Category 2 Centre, together with Mr Eung-chon CHOI, Administrator of the Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea. The signing ceremony took place in Gyeongbokgung Palace, a royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty located in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The proposal for the establishment of the International Centre was approved by the 207th session of the Executive Board and the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference, in 2019.

UNESCO welcomes the signature of the Agreement, which officialises the launch of this Category 2 Centre, and remains convinced that this Centre will make a vital contribution to the global debates on the World Heritage interpretation and contribute to the safeguarding and presentation of World Heritage properties across the globe.
